On Translation of Cosmetic Brands

Abstract

Due to the people’s increasing demand for cosmetics and the prosperity of cosmetic industry, a large number of world-famous cosmetic brands have appeared on the market. The quality of cosmetic brands translation is full of great importance because it directly influences the cosmetic products’ selling. During the translation practice of cosmetic brands, the basis factors such as the ethnic culture, women consumption psychology and mass taste should be taken into account, which are closely related to the image and connotation of the cosmetic brands. Guided by the principle of culture equivalence and flexible equivalence, this thesis intends to make a brief study of cosmetics and cosmetic brands and introduce some translation skills, namely, transliteration, free translation and the combination of transliteration and free translation.

摘  要

    随着人们对化妆品的需求越来越大,化妆品业蓬勃发展,并诞生了1大批国际国内著名的化妆品品牌。化妆品品牌翻译的质量相当重要,因为它直接影响到化妆品在市场上的销售与推广。在化妆品品牌翻译的实践中,民族文化习俗、女性消费心理以及大众审美都是必须考虑的因素,因为它们与化妆品品牌的形象和内涵有着密不可分的'联系。以翻译的文化对等和灵活对等理论为指导,本论文对化妆品及化妆品品牌作了简单的研究并介绍了音译、自由译等等几种长常用于化妆品品牌的翻译技巧。
